It's Not Too Hard

Day 2

In Deuteronomy 30, God tells Israel that if they repent and turn back to God's way of living and obey His instructions, He will restore their fortunes. It doesn't matter how much you lost or how far you have strayed off of God's path for your life. If you turn around and pursue God with all your heart, soul and mind, He will forgive you. He will put you back on the path He has for your life. And when He does, He will also restore your losses.

He reiterates this promise all throughout the Bible. I particularly like this instance because He tells us it's not too hard to understand the instructions.

In the New Living Translation, Chapter 30: 10-16 it says...

v10) The Lord your God will delight in you if you obey His voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.

v11) This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you to understand, and it is not beyond your reach.

v12) It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, 'Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?'

v13) It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, 'Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?'

v14) No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it.

v15) "Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.

v16 For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep His commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in His ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.

God tells us that when we obey, He will act on our behalf. Clear enough.

But what are these commands, decrees, and regulations we are to follow? Do they still apply? If not, what does? Find out tomorrow...

In the meantime, your homework is to read Deuteronomy Chapter 30. And for bonus points, read Deuteronomy Chapter 28 to look at the long list of blessings for those who obey God.
